During the planning stages of the Cat Face Pullover, I knew we definitely had to make the US ARMY M40 Denim Jacket, adopted in 1940.

In the 1930s, highly decorative coveralls were already common among civilians. Compared to those, this M40 is a stark contrast. Its decorativeness has been stripped away, making it a simpler, more practical garment.

Compared to the somewhat large and rough pockets seen on the M-35, this one is designed to be more practical, retaining only the necessary functions. I think it truly is a "service-issue garment."

While I haven't been particularly drawn to civilian 2-pocket coveralls from the wartime period, this US ARMY version is different. There's something rugged and something rational about it. I was drawn to the "reasoned roughness" unique to military items.

Similar to the SEAMEN series, I also wanted these to be worn as a set, so I based them on the US ARMY M-35 Denim Trousers, adopted in the late 1930s.

They feature a wide, relaxed silhouette and a deep rise. The design, prioritizing workability, feels rather fresh from a modern perspective, and the balance when paired with the jacket is excellent.

To reproduce the "roughness" and "nep feeling" seen in vintage US ARMY fabric, TCB's approach was to use recycled cotton for both the warp and weft yarns.

Originally, recycled cotton is often discussed in the context of environmental considerations, but it inevitably results in a rougher yarn.

For brands that want a clean, tidy finish, it can be seen as a "difficult material to handle." However, for TCB, that "unavoidable unevenness" was precisely what we were looking for.

Cotton that has already been spun into yarn is spun again. The unevenness created through this process strongly evokes the atmosphere of that time.

Additionally, gray yarn dyed with indanthrene dye is used for the weft. The reason why the indigo appears blue yet somehow deeply subdued is said to be a contrivance at the time to make dirt less noticeable. Although the fabric has been sanforized, we intentionally kept the water treatment to a minimum this time.

As a result, the fabric retains a "raw texture," and its surface has a bumpy, three-dimensional feel.

Furthermore, since no skew (twist prevention) treatment has been applied, natural twisting will occur with wear. It's not a uniform and tidy denim, but rather somewhat rough and somewhat incomplete.

However, that "incompleteness" was a "necessity" born out of the limitations of the time, and that's why I think it still looks so appealing today.

And this is the garment that allows you to wear it just as it is.

□ Caution □
While all fabrics are custom-made by analyzing vintage pieces, the fabric for this item is different from the Catface Pullover Shirt, which bears the same name. Please note that it is not the same fabric as the pullover shirt for a complete set.

These trousers are based on the US ARMY M-35 denim trousers adopted in the late 1930s.

They feature a deep rise and a relaxed wide silhouette, allowing you to enjoy the rugged atmosphere typical of workwear from that era.

The fabric is original denim made with recycled cotton for both the warp and weft yarns. It has a natural nep and uneven texture, offering a rich appearance reminiscent of vintage US ARMY denim.

Furthermore, by using indanthrene-dyed gray weft yarn, a deep indigo color is achieved. Since no skew (twist prevention) treatment has been applied, natural twisting and fading will develop with wear, creating a richer, more characterful look.

We also recommend setting them up with the M40 Denim Jacket from the same series. Enjoy the functional beauty and presence unique to military wear.

*Please note that this item uses a different fabric from the CATFACE Pullover Shirt in the same series. It is not made from exactly the same fabric as the pullover shirt.
