“Sakana” Mosaic tile 70 x 70

Fish, are an important part of the ecosystem. They are also a trifle beautiful, with vibrant colors, patterns and shapes. Drawn by Satoshi Kaga, this bandanna has been a work of love and patience. Over several months and many many many, adjustments and fine-tuning we got it to look like a piece of art. Inspired by various unrelated inspirations, this first was based on a paper label then influenced by an old bandanna, and later a rug. The end result is a curious piece of bandanna art that will look absolutely incredible tied or wrapped around a person. The art style and arrangement of this bandanna is a bit of a throwback to the 1800s but only in jest. The look of the fish and use of bubble dots to create an underwater effect was a precarious undertaking. Making new things look like they’re old is not easy. Well we tried. I think it looks amazing. We really hope you do too…

魚はな、エコシステムの中でめっちゃ大事な存在やねん。
それに、色合いも鮮やかで、模様や形もあって、ちょっとした美しさも持ってるんや。このバンダナはSatoshi Kagaさんが描いたもんで、愛情と根気の結晶やで。何か月もかけて、ほんまに何回も何回も調整と微調整を重ねて、やっと一枚のアートみたいな仕上がりになったんや。いろんな一見関係なさそうなものから影響を受けてて、最初は紙のラベルが元になって、そのあと古いバンダナの雰囲気が入って、さらにラグの要素も混ざってきたんや。最終的にできあがったんは、人に巻いたり結んだりしたら、もう信じられへんくらい映える、不思議でおもろいバンダナアートやねん。
このバンダナのアートスタイルと配置は、ちょっと1800年代へのオマージュっぽいけど、あくまで冗談半分やで。魚の表現とか、水中っぽさを出すための泡みたいなドットの使い方は、正直かなり綱渡りやったわ。新しいもんを、あたかも古そうに見せるんは、ほんま簡単ちゃうねん。まあ、やってみたわけや。個人的には、めちゃくちゃええ出来やと思ってる。
