Originally, "SHOP COAT" is a common term that came about because workers would quickly throw it on over their clothes to respond to unexpected visitors. It's interesting to note that while you might think people used to wear this coat for work, it actually wasn't intended for that purpose.
Because it's designed to be worn on suddenly, it has a very functional design, including a pass-through access pocket that allows you to take out coins and keys from the pockets of your inner clothing, and a flap-style pocket that prevents things from falling out even when you bend over.
If you usually dress casually, items with a so-called "coat length" can be a bit awkward. But this SHOP COAT has a solid work-wear design, so I think it's easy to incorporate naturally, rather than clashing with the items you already own.
