TCB Jeans_Cathartt Chore Coat_Brown Paw Stripe

The Cathartt Chore Coat, created with heart buttons, is now available in a new color: Paw Stripe. This Chore Coat is a mix of the heart stripe found in vintage Carhartt and the "Cats Paw" characteristic of TCB, resulting in a classic and cool garment when viewed as a finished product. However, upon closer inspection, it reveals a charming duality.

This fabric was created by Sanyo Senko Co., Ltd. in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, my hometown. As a boy, I used to frequent the arcade nearby, but I never knew that such a company with interesting technology existed so close.

The process involves indigo dyeing the raw fabric using a continuous dyeing machine, one of the few in Japan capable of this process. Then, a discharge print is applied, where a cylinder applies a discharge agent to remove the color, followed by printing with a beige dye.

Since beige is applied to the discharged white heart pattern, the resulting hearts have slightly blurred outlines.

While blurred outlines can sometimes be seen on vintage Wabash fabrics, as these printing plates are used, the edges and outlines of the discharge print become less sharp, eventually requiring replacement of the plates.

The Wabash fabric specially ordered by TCB might appear a bit too flashy if the outlines of the hearts and paws were too crisp. However, we've intentionally given it a slightly playful, subtle look from the start, so we hope you'll appreciate this "cool yet cute" aspect.

At first glance, it might seem cheap, but it's a detail that requires a lot of effort.

After making it and even touring the factory, I wondered if Stifel's fabric making method might have eventually disappeared because it was simply too labor-intensive. I'm incredibly grateful to Sanyo Senko for being able to reproduce it using the same method today. Considering the cost, I hesitated to print on the back of the fabric, but ultimately, I was itching to do it, and instead of boots, there are cats. It doesn't matter when you wear it, but you see it every time you put it on. Perhaps that's one of the charms of this fabric.

*Stifel was an American textile company that developed Wabash fabric.

On the back of Stifel's fabric, there's a logo with the company name "Stifel" within a boot-shaped pattern. The details of the Chore Coat itself, like the Denim, are based on vintage Carhartt from the 1940s-50s, but with reference to various materials, the MASTER CLOTH name and heart buttons are designed to evoke the atmosphere of the 1920s to match the historical period.

For example, the following are details typical of the 1920s:

・Square collar with a seam in the middle

・Change buttons attached with eyelets

・Adjustable first button and cuffs

・Low sleeve cap, also reproduced in TWO CATS BLOUSE, etc.

■Sizing

The sizing differs from denim jackets; coveralls have a larger fit. Choosing the same size as your TCB denim jacket will result in a significantly larger size.

■Notes

Both the front buttons and cuff buttons are change-button specifications. Their durability is lower than regular buttons, so we recommend removing the buttons when washing. In case of damage or loss, buttons are in stock, but they will be replaced at a cost. We appreciate your understanding.
