What a green!

The TCB JEANS "Cat Head Jacket Green Apple Corduroy" has arrived at Spiral.

When I first saw this jacket on TCB's website, I have to admit, I wasn't sure about that color!

But we love corduroy here at Spiral, and a few customers had asked us to bring it in, so we decided to give it a try.

And when it finally arrived... well, what do you know? It looks fantastic!

TCB calls this color "Green Apple," inspired by the emerald green corduroy jackets found in vintage clothing.

It's an unexpected combination: rugged American workwear styling and such a bright, cheerful color.

The jacket itself is based on a 1930s Duck Head coverall, featuring asymmetrical chest pockets, raglan sleeves, and a collar with a chin strap.

On the left chest is a wonderfully quirky little cat label, TCB's playful interpretation of the duck featured on the original Duck Head label.

Another highlight is the fabric.

TCB recreated a 14-wale corduroy inspired by the fabric used in vintage Levi's Type III jackets.

Made from 85% cotton and 15% polyester, the fabric has beautifully defined ribs that change character depending on the light.

And there's that lovely, soft feel that makes corduroy so appealing, especially when you put it on during a chilly morning.

Other details include textured metal buttons, green buttonholes, and green bar tacks inspired by vintage workwear.

The fit is based on TCB's regular Cathartt Chore Coat, with a slightly shorter length than the original vintage jacket. Raglan sleeves provide comfortable room around the shoulders.

Staff fit reference: Gyaro — 168 cm / 68 kg, wearing size 36.

It's a close, comfortable fit over a lightweight T-shirt.

Despite its striking color, the softness of the corduroy gives this jacket a surprisingly relaxed feel.

It's a completely different experience from wearing a denim coverall.

Keeping the Art of Corduroy Alive in Japan

The Green Apple Corduroy jacket is made from an original 14-wale corduroy developed by TCB.

"Wale" refers to the number of raised ribs per inch of fabric. A 14-wale corduroy has fourteen ribs across one inch.

To recreate the character of vintage corduroy used in Levi's Type III jackets, TCB carefully adjusted the yarn thickness and weaving density.

There was a time when fabrics like this were relatively easy to produce in Japan.

Today, however, the decline in textile mills has made it increasingly difficult to recreate certain fabrics that were once readily available.

This is a subject particularly close to our hearts at Spiral.

Fukude, in neighboring Iwata City, is a traditional corduroy-producing area. We have a strong affection for Japanese corduroy and want to support the people and industries that keep this textile tradition alive.

TCB's decision to develop this fabric again reflects the challenges facing textile production in Japan.

The composition, 85% cotton and 15% polyester, was also chosen with the vintage fabric in mind.

For the color, TCB selected reactive dyeing.

Rather than creating an artificially worn appearance from the beginning, the idea is to let the jacket develop its own vintage character through years of wear and washing.

Subtle changes around the seams, puckering, and raised ribs should become part of that story.

There's also a wonderful story behind the jacket's design.

The original 1930s Duck Head coverall used as a reference belonged to a member of the TCB team. A chance conversation revealed that he already owned exactly the vintage piece they had been searching for.

That unexpected discovery helped bring this project to life.

From studying old workwear details to recreating fabrics that are becoming increasingly difficult to produce, this jacket represents much more than simply copying a vintage garment.

It's a great example of what makes TCB's approach to clothing so interesting.
