The PREQUEL J1007C 30s Sports Jacket has arrived in an exclusive leather specification.

Inspired by American leather sports jackets of the 1930s, this is a beautifully understated piece with plenty of vintage character.

What makes this version special is the leather.

Unlike the standard model, this exclusive edition uses leather approximately 1mm thick, offering a wonderful balance of lightness, softness, and substance.

The leather has been milled to bring out its natural suppleness, giving it a comfortable, broken-in feel from the moment you put it on.

Rather than being polished to a high shine, the surface has a subdued, matte finish. With regular wear and occasional oil care, it will gradually develop a natural sheen of its own.

The leather is dyed brown all the way through, adding another dimension to the changes in color and character that come with years of wear.

The design is classic 1930s sportswear: a relatively short body, a neatly proportioned collar, a zip front, and three flap pockets—one at the chest and two at the waist.

One of my favorite details is the back.

Vertical panel seams, a horizontal waistband detail, back pleats, and buckle adjusters at both sides give the jacket a particularly handsome appearance from behind.

Those pleats and adjusters aren't just decorative, either. They help provide freedom of movement and allow you to fine-tune the fit.

Brown stitching and buttons, along with a brass-colored zipper, provide subtle contrast against the black leather.

Pair it with jeans or chinos and a flannel or work shirt for a classic American vintage look. Or simply throw it over a plain T-shirt or sweatshirt.

Leather jackets look fantastic, but sometimes their weight and stiffness mean they spend more time hanging in the closet than being worn.

Why Does 1mm Leather Make a Difference?

Leather thickness is one of the factors that can significantly affect how a jacket feels and wears.

Of course, the type of hide, tanning method, and finishing process all play important roles. But even with exactly the same jacket design, changing the thickness of the leather can make a noticeable difference to the fit, movement, and overall silhouette.

Thicker leather has its own appeal, offering a substantial feel and a more structured shape.

Thinner leather, on the other hand, tends to move more naturally with the body, allowing folds, creases, and drape to develop more easily from the beginning.

For this exclusive version of the J1007C, PREQUEL has selected leather approximately 1mm thick.

But thickness is only part of the story.

The leather also undergoes a milling process, in which it is mechanically worked to bring out a softer, more supple texture.

Its surface is deliberately kept matte rather than given an exaggerated shine.

Instead of starting out glossy, the leather is intended to develop its own natural luster through wear and careful conditioning.

Because the leather is dyed brown throughout, changes in its surface color and appearance will also become part of its character over time.

That's one of the things we love most about a good leather jacket.

It doesn't stay exactly as it was on the day you bought it.

Creases begin to form according to the way you move. The leather gradually softens, and its surface develops subtle variations in color and sheen.
