TCB Jeans_Painter Shorts 2026

Once again, as summer approaches, it's time for our annual production of painter's shorts.

The base for these shorts is a double-knee type painter's pant, likely cherished by loggers in the 1940s and 50s.

We've modified it into shorts, TCB-style.
"Double-knee for summer?"
Some might wonder.

Of course, the initial inspiration was simply the cool stitching unique to double-knee pants. (Haha)
But when you actually wear them, it's surprisingly not an issue.

The fabric used this time is 10oz, with indigo rope-dyed #10 yarn for the warp.
And for the weft, which touches the skin, we've used European linen yarn.

So, while they look like solid denim, they allow air to circulate when worn.
The quick-drying properties unique to linen make them relatively comfortable even in mid-summer.

The indigo's deep and light shades, the slightly brownish hue unique to linen,
and the subtle nep appearance.
These are shorts we hope you'll wear diligently and enjoy seeing fade.

By the way, according to the weaver, linen is a truly delicate material,
and the threads tend to break when dry. So, during dry seasons,
they weave while humidifying the factory.

Honestly, even for me, Inoue, who wears pretty much the same thing 365 days a year, full-length pants in summer are just too hot. (Haha)

But I still want to wear denim even when it's hot.

For those people, we make these shorts just once a year, like a summer tradition. It's like saying, "We've started chilled Chinese noodles," or rather, "We've started Painter Shorts."

Every year, before summer, producing new short models in small batches has become somewhat of a tradition at TCB. And this year, new shorts have been completed. Since creating Tabby's Workpants, a small painter's pants boom has occurred within me, and these new shorts are also inspired by 50's painter's pants.

Gripper Zipper
One of the brands from Scovill Co. that was used in early zip-type jeans from L Co. in California and L Co. in Kansas.

UFO Rivet
The familiar UFO-shaped rivet.

Two-prong snap button (top button)
While modern snap buttons are mostly the no-prong type, this is the traditional two-prong style.
