Over the past few years, I have been making tailored jackets and coveralls out of linen.
It's reassuring to have it with you when you're in an air-conditioned room or on the train in the middle of summer. You can quickly put it on when it gets cold. The moderately thick linen is firm and taut, and it doesn't feel too hot because it stays away from your skin.

As I was putting it on I thought "If this was waist-length, or blouson-length, it would be perfect for midsummer," and then I remembered the so-called first type of denim jacket.

The fabric itself is 5-ounce linen, which is much thinner than denim, so it won't feel too hot even with an inner pocket.
At first, I tried using a cinch back, but it seemed a bit risky with the thin fabric, so I removed the cinch and prioritized ease of use.
Rivets were also changed to kandome because thin materials could have problems with cutting through the fabric.
I deliberately used metal buttons and attached them with thread. I chose a slightly smaller size and...oh, it looks really old-fashioned, but it's the perfect size for this shape.

The pattern was based on denim but was modified to fit linen material, which has almost no shrinkage.

Linen is a staple material for summer. It weighs about 5 ounces and is almost not itchy. This smooth texture comes from the washing and dyeing after weaving. At a fabric processing shop in Shiga, the fabric is thoroughly rubbed and washed many times. To achieve a natural soft texture, the fabric is placed on a conveyer belt and dried in a very large dryer to "fluffily" dry it. If the desired texture is not achieved in one round of rubbing, washing, and drying, the process is repeated many times. This process is not "somehow" but is managed according to the data and specifications for each fabric and color. This is why this texture can be produced consistently.

The product is unwashed. It has been treated with a fairly strong shrink-proofing process, so there will be no significant dimensional change if you iron it.

A light jacket that can be worn all year round. Great for protection from the midsummer sun and air conditioning.
