Back after a long absence — but almost everything has changed.

The WORKERS TOOL BAG is back!

Longtime WORKERS customers may remember this one. After making its long-awaited return earlier this year, the TOOL BAG is now available in two colorways: Ecru × Black and Black × Black.

At first glance, it looks much like the original. But the canvas, sewing factory, stitching thread, label and handle webbing have all been completely updated.

The body is made from heavyweight No. 4 canvas, approximately 23.5oz, with even more substantial No. 6 canvas, approximately 19oz, used for the bottom.

This is seriously heavy-duty canvas, and that ruggedness is exactly what makes a tool bag so appealing.

The bag measures approximately 31cm across the bottom, 18cm deep and 30cm tall.

It widens toward the top, reaching approximately 40cm across the opening. That gives it more carrying capacity than you might expect from its appearance.

There's also a handy exterior pocket on one side.

But here's one of the most important details: the bag stands upright on its own, even when empty.

The side edges of the canvas are carefully folded and stitched, creating a structure that acts almost like a frame.

Combined with the heavyweight canvas, this construction gives the bag its sturdy, self-supporting shape.

For the handles, WORKERS tracked down the actual manufacturer of an exceptionally thick cotton-rayon webbing, made with spun rayon, also known in Japan as sufu.

It has a substantial, rugged feel, yet remains surprisingly supple — quite different from ordinary acrylic webbing.

Two handle lengths are available.

Medium-Short Handle — approximately 25cm.

A classic tool bag proportion, ideal for carrying by hand.

Medium-Long Handle — approximately 60cm.

Long enough to carry comfortably over the shoulder, leaving both hands free and making it especially convenient when you're carrying more.

Both handle lengths are available in two colors.

Ecru × Black combines natural canvas with black handles, while Black × Black keeps everything in solid black.

The same bag takes on quite a different character depending on the color.

Heavy-duty canvas, substantial handles and the careful craftsmanship of a Japanese sewing factory.

This is the kind of bag that looks best when you really put it to work.

Could giving up selvedge actually make a better bag?

Earlier versions of the WORKERS TOOL BAG were built around the use of selvedge canvas.

Unfortunately, the weaving mill that originally produced that fabric eventually closed down, making it difficult to continue manufacturing the bag in the same way.

Rather than insisting on reproducing the original construction, WORKERS decided to take a different approach:

Forget the selvedge requirement and aim for something even better.

Without selvedge edges, the question becomes how to finish the raw edges of the canvas.

One option is to use an overlock stitch, but WORKERS chose the more demanding method of folding and stitching the fabric edges.

Working with such thick No. 4 canvas is no easy task.

The result, however, is more than just a clean seam.

These folded sections act as a structural frame, helping the bag stand upright even when completely empty.

The seam running across the center of the bottom is another detail carried over from the earlier design.

Originally, it was a practical solution for working with narrower fabric while making use of the selvedge. This time, WORKERS deliberately retained it as part of the bag's character.

Other details have been updated as well.

The stitching uses heavy polyester thread with a surface coating designed to prevent untwisting.

The label has changed from printed sheeting fabric to a coated fabric, allowing for sharper, more defined printing.

The goal wasn't to recreate exactly what they had made before. It was to make the best possible bag with the materials and manufacturing techniques available today.

Instead of treating changes in the manufacturing environment as a setback, WORKERS turned them into an opportunity to improve the product.

That approach says a lot about the brand.
