TCB Jeans_Catface Trousers 10.2oz_Black Denim

During the planning stage for the Cat Face Pullover, I absolutely knew I also wanted to create the US ARMY M40 denim jacket, adopted in 1940.

In the 1930s, highly decorative coveralls were already common in civilian clothing. Compared to those, the M40 is a stark contrast. It strips away all ornamentation, resulting in a simpler, more practical garment.

Compared to the somewhat oversized and rough pockets seen on the M-35, this one features a more practical design, retaining only essential functions. It truly feels like a "service-issue garment."

While I haven't been particularly drawn to civilian two-pocket coveralls from the wartime period before, this US ARMY version is different. It has a certain ruggedness, a certain rationality. I was drawn to the "reasoned roughness" unique to military items.

Similar to the SEAMEN series, I wanted to offer it as a set-up, so I based it on the US ARMY M-35 denim trousers, adopted in the late 1930s.

These trousers feature a wide, relaxed silhouette and a deep rise. The design, prioritizing workability, feels surprisingly fresh from a modern perspective, and it creates an excellent balance when paired with the jacket.

To reproduce the "roughness" and "nep texture" found in vintage US ARMY fabric, TCB adopted an approach using recycled cotton for both warp and weft threads.

Recycled cotton is typically discussed in the context of environmental considerations, but it inherently results in a rougher yarn.

For brands aiming for a clean, polished look, it can be considered a "difficult material to work with." However, for TCB, the "unavoidable irregularities" were precisely what we were looking for.

Cotton that has already been spun into yarn is re-spun. The unevenness created through this process ultimately brings a strong sense of the original era.

Additionally, slub-dyed gray yarn is used for the weft. The reason why the indigo appears deeply subdued, despite its blue color, is said to be a technique from that era to camouflage dirt. Although the fabric is sanforized, we intentionally kept the water treatment to a minimum this time.

As a result, the fabric retains a "raw" feel, with a bumpy, three-dimensional texture.

Furthermore, because it's not skewed (twist-prevented), natural twisting will occur with wear. It's not a uniform, perfectly neat denim, but rather somewhat rough and somewhat imperfect.

However, this "imperfection" was a "necessity" born from the constraints of the time, and that's precisely why it still looks so appealing today.

And this is the piece that allows you to wear that very look.

These trousers are based on the US ARMY M-35 denim trousers adopted in the late 1930s.

Featuring a deep rise and a relaxed wide silhouette, they capture the rugged atmosphere of workwear from that era.

The fabric is original denim, made with recycled cotton for both warp and weft threads. It boasts a natural nep and uneven texture, creating a rich character reminiscent of vintage US ARMY denim.

Additionally, the use of slub-dyed gray weft threads creates a deep indigo color. Since no skewing (twist prevention) treatment is applied, natural twisting and fading will develop with wear, enhancing its character over time.

We also recommend pairing them with the M40 denim jacket from the same series. Enjoy the functional beauty and presence unique to military wear.
