This is the third iteration of the Deluxe Tote.

The changes this time are to the handle attachment width and the outer pocket.

The original Deluxe Tote comes in M and L sizes, with a difference in handle attachment: the M size has a narrower attachment (no outer pocket), and the L size has a wider attachment (with an outer pocket).

This time, as an arrangement, the body is M size, but the handle attachment position and outer pocket follow the specifications of the original L size. In other words, the specifications have been blended.

Accordingly, we also made two types of handles: short and long. If the original attachment width was narrow, it would be difficult to put your shoulder through, no matter how long the handle was. With the wider handle attachment width, the long handle is now a very easy-to-use size.

There's a subtle but significant change from the last time. The handle tape has changed from acrylic to cotton-staple fiber (cotton-rayon) tape made on a power loom, making it thicker than ever before.

As usual, after a thorough search, we found a manufacturer (surprisingly, in our neighborhood).

We finally understood aspects that accessory suppliers couldn't explain before. Even for something as simple as "tape," the texture can vary significantly due to differences in equipment and thread.

Even within the "same" range from accessory suppliers, the looms are actually different. This new tape is the thickest we've ever used.

The "staple fiber" in "cotton-staple fiber" is short for "staple fiber," which refers to "spun rayon" or "short-fiber rayon."

The size is 34 cm wide, 16 cm deep, and 31 cm high, which is what we call M size. The handles are about 30 cm for the short version and 60 cm for the long version.

For the handle, the same fabric as the bottom is sewn over the tape.
This is also done with a twin-needle sewing machine, folding both sides of the fabric while centering it on the tape.
Equipment is everything! So, we once again visited a factory in northern Kanto.
Of course, it's made in Japan.

After three visits, the president finally remembered my "face." He probably only vaguely remembers the brand name. But Ms. M in production management liked WORKERS' bags so much that she bought one, so it's all good.

It's surprisingly important to be "remembered by the factory." There are always things that can't be fully conveyed in a specification sheet, like the tension of the thread, the neatness or roughness of the finishing. Without the factory understanding "this is what that person likes," the final product won't be that "this is it!!!" perfection.

At the side seams, the fabric edges are folded and sewn in an alternating pattern. This forms the "bones" of the bag body, allowing it to stand on its own even when empty.

The main body is made of No. 4 canvas, equivalent to 20.8 ounces.

The bottom and the parts that go on the tape are made of No. 11 canvas, equivalent to 12 ounces.
The weight is about 600g.

For this tote bag, our goal isn't to make it exactly the same as the original, but rather "to create something that approaches the original, or even surpasses it in some aspects, using Japanese standards."

I believe the neatness of the stitching completely surpasses the original. As expected from a Japanese sewing factory.
The fabric weave is also beautiful. The tape is flexible and easy to hold.

However, the original has its own charm, with its rough and tough fabric and parts, and its "as long as it doesn't break" roughness in sewing. That, too, is a unique characteristic.

Different countries, different finishes. Please see the difference for yourself.

WORKERS Deluxe Tote

The WORKERS Deluxe Tote has been a huge hit since its long-awaited release.

This model is a special specification that combines the traditional M-size body with the outer pocket and handle attachment position adopted for the L-size.

By widening the handle attachment width, both the short and long handles are now easier to carry over the shoulder, greatly improving practicality.

The main body uses No. 4 canvas, equivalent to 20.8 oz.

No. 11 canvas, equivalent to 12 oz, is used for the bottom and handle reinforcement, achieving high durability while maintaining a light weight of approximately 600g.

The handle tape has also been updated this time.

Instead of traditional acrylic tape, we now use cotton-staple fiber (cotton-rayon) tape woven on a power loom.

It has a substantial thickness yet is soft, with a texture whose difference you can feel the moment you grasp it.

Furthermore, the side sections are constructed with the fabric edges folded and sewn in an alternating pattern, giving the bag a skeletal structure.

This allows it to stand on its own even when empty, contributing to its ease of use in daily life.

The beautiful stitching is meticulously crafted in a Japanese sewing factory.

This is a true WORKERS masterpiece, retaining the rugged charm of American totes while finished with Japan's unique high sewing technology and material selection.
