A yarn-dyed check shirt with a fabric weight of over 15 ounces. This original UES fabric with selvedge is 100% cotton, yet features a wool-like volume and deep color. Because the fabric is woven with very thick threads, there is a limit to the number of looms that can be used in Japan, and because an old-fashioned shuttle loom is used, the amount that can be produced per year is also limited, making this a valuable fabric. The reason for using old-fashioned looms is to weave slowly without pulling the warp threads excessively, in order to bring out the original texture of the thread. Although this slows down production speed, it allows for the creation of a soft, bulky fabric.

The bottom of the shirt is piped and is designed to be worn untucked from under the pants.

Because it was woven on a power loom, the SELVAGE of the fabric can be seen on the left front edge of the front body. Even in Japan, which is well-known for fabrics with selvage, there are only a few shuttle looms capable of weaving such thick fabric, making this a very rare product.

As for the pattern of the fabric, the check pattern is made large to give it an outerwear feel. When cutting the pieces, multiple skilled craftsmen work together to match the patterns. The larger the pattern, the more fabric is needed for one garment. Matching the patterns creates a beautiful finished look.

The attention to detail extends even to the buttons. We use horn buttons carved from buffalo horn. Although they are less strong than plastic buttons, we use them because of their excellent color and texture. They come in a range of colors from black to light brown, with no two being exactly the same. Some have slight imperfections in shape, but we hope you will appreciate this as a unique feature of natural materials. We have sewn one extra button onto the washing instructions, so please remove it and store it away.

The above is reprinted from the UES website.

The extra-heavy flannel shirt from UES is extremely thick and can be used as an outer layer. With this thickness, you can get through the warm winters we're experiencing these days.

Every year I think, "I don't need something so heavy," or "I might not wear it this year," but I end up using it more than I expected. Practicality is important, but the texture and appearance are also important factors.

I've decided to grow a western shirt this year, so I'm imagining it would be good as an outer layer. Shirt on shirt. On colder days, I'd like to wear a coverall or a shop coat on top of it.

It is also recommended to wear it over overalls.

Please try it.
