SPIRAL COMMENT

The second PASSED Coverall from TCB Jeans and Tsurutto of “Channel Tsurutto” has arrived — the black “PURRCULE.”

The original inspiration comes from a WWII-era vintage HERCULES coverall owned by Tsurutto.

It features the simplified construction typical of the wartime period, including double-stitch sewing instead of triple stitching and the four-pocket layout often associated with wartime coveralls. Button the collar all the way up, and it even takes on a slightly motorcycle-jacket-like appearance.

It is a relatively simple wartime design, but one with a character all its own.

The name “PURRCULE” is another fun TCB touch.

It combines HERCULES with “PURR” — the sound a happy cat makes.

What we are especially looking forward to with this BK version, however, is the all-black fabric.

The jacket is made from 10.8oz 2/1 right-hand twill black denim, using Zimbabwe cotton for the warp and nep yarn for the weft.

The warp is rope-dyed with sulfur dye, leaving the core undyed, while the weft is cheese-dyed black with sulfur dye. Both are black, but they are dyed using completely different methods.

When new, the fabric has a deep, matte black appearance.

But with wear, every day begins to leave its mark — the creases from putting your hands in the pockets, wear at the elbows, and puckering gradually developing around the contrasting white stitching.

The more you wear it, the more those small traces of everyday life begin to emerge across the black fabric.

Same black, different dyeing methods.

PURRCULE BK is made from 10.8oz 2/1 right-hand twill black work denim.

What makes this fabric particularly interesting is that the warp and weft are dyed black using different methods.

The warp uses Zimbabwe cotton and is rope-dyed black with sulfur dye, leaving the core undyed.

With rope dyeing, the yarns are gathered into ropes and dyed without allowing the color to fully penetrate the center. As the black surface gradually wears away through friction and use, the lighter core begins to show, creating the vertical fading and wear patterns associated with denim.

The weft, meanwhile, uses nep yarn that has been cheese-dyed black with sulfur dye.

Because both the warp and weft are black, the fabric begins with a subdued, matte appearance.

But because different yarns and dyeing methods are used for each direction, they will age differently over time, gradually creating greater contrast and depth across the fabric.

The black-dyed neps should also become increasingly visible as the surrounding color fades.

Because it starts out almost completely black, every change becomes easier to see.

It is a jacket we would like to wear, wash, and watch evolve — with a completely different kind of aging from indigo denim.

In-store try-ons are offered as a service to customers who are considering purchasing from our store.

Please refrain from trying on items solely for the purpose of size confirmation.

Items such as cut-and-sew garments, which are prone to stretching, cannot be tried on. Exchanges after trying on at home post-purchase are also not accepted.

Please also refrain from trying on belts, as they tend to stretch. For length confirmation, please bring a belt you are currently using.

For leather boots and sandals, try-ons are also offered on the premise of purchase. Please try them on during the final confirmation stage. When trying on, please be careful not to cause wrinkles. Please be sure to bring your own socks.
