The Cathartt Chore Coat, created with heart buttons, is now available in a new Paw Stripe color. We mixed the heart stripes that existed in vintage Carhartt with the TCB-ness of Cat's Paw, resulting in a classic and cool garment when viewed as a finished product. Yet, upon closer inspection, it possesses a duality of being charming. This is the finished Chore Coat.

This fabric was created by Sanyo Senko Co., Ltd. in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, my hometown. As a boy, I used to go to the game arcade nearby, but I had no idea that a company with such interesting technology was so close.

The process involves indigo dyeing using a continuous dyeing machine, one of the few in Japan capable of indigo dyeing raw fabric. After that, a discharge print process is used, where a discharge agent is applied with a cylinder to remove the color, and then a beige dye is printed over it. To apply beige to the discharged white heart pattern, the resulting hearts have a slightly blurred outline.

Even with vintage Wabash fabrics, you sometimes see Wabash with blurred outlines. As these printing plates are used, the edges and outlines of the discharge print become softer, and eventually, the plates need to be replaced.

The Wabash that TCB specially ordered might be a bit too flashy if the outlines of the hearts and paws were too crisp. However, we've intentionally given it a slightly whimsical look from the start, so we hope you'll consider this another cool and cute point.

At first glance, it might seem cheap, but it's a specification that requires a lot of effort.

After making it and even touring the factory, I wondered if Stifel's fabric manufacturing method might have disappeared simply because it was too labor-intensive. I am nothing but grateful to Sanyo Senko for being able to produce it using the same method even today. Considering the cost, I hesitated to print on the back of the fabric, but in the end, I was so excited that there are cats instead of boots. It doesn't matter once you wear it, but you see it every time you put it on. That might be one of the charms of this fabric. *Stifel was an American textile company that developed Wabash fabric. On the back of Stifel's fabric, there is a logo with "Stifel" written inside a boot-shaped pattern.

The details of the Chore Coat itself, like the Denim, are based on 1940s-50s Carhartt Vintage, but with reference to various materials, it is made to evoke the atmosphere of the 1920s to match the MASTER CLOTH name, heart buttons, and historical context.

For example, the following are details characteristic of the 1920s:

Square collar with a seam in the middle. Change buttons attached with eyelets.

Adjustable first button and cuffs.

Set-in sleeves.

Low sleeve cap, also replicated in TWO CATS BLOUSE, etc.

■Notes: Both the front buttons and cuff buttons are change button specifications. They are less durable than regular buttons, so we recommend removing the buttons when washing. In case of damage or loss, we have buttons in stock, but they will be provided at a cost, so please understand.
