A new chapter of TCB workwear: “Cat a log.”

Starting with this release, TCB’s Chore Coat will be part of a new series called “Cat a log.”

The name carries two meanings.

The first comes from the idea of enjoying workwear as if you were flipping through an old catalog, exploring vintage archives from the past.

The second is “log” — a record of the fading and wear that each owner adds to the garment over time.

And in true TCB fashion, this Chore Coat isn’t simply a reproduction of one particular vintage piece.

What TCB had on hand were heart-shaped change buttons and a MASTER CLOTH overall from the same era.

From there, they studied their own 1940s–50s Chore Coats along with various historical references, imagining what a coat like this might have looked like in the 1920s.

There’s a square collar with a center seam, eyelets for change buttons, an adjustable top button and cuffs, set-in sleeves, and a low sleeve cap.

And of course, the detail you can’t miss: those heart-shaped buttons.

Something about a heart-shaped button on rugged workwear just works.

The fabric is a 10oz 2×1 denim, woven with No. 7 warp yarns and finer No. 16 weft yarns. The weave density has also been slightly reduced to bring out the natural irregularity of the warp yarns.

For the color, TCB uses 100% synthetic indigo without blending in other dyes. With fewer dyeing cycles, it starts out in a slightly brighter shade of blue.

From here, we’re looking forward to seeing the vertical fading develop, the seams begin to show wear, and the whole coat gradually change around those heart-shaped buttons.

Maybe someday the real thing will turn up, and we’ll find out just how close TCB’s imagination came.

That possibility makes this coat even more interesting.

What does “Cat a log” mean?

“Cat a log” is the new series name TCB has introduced for its Chore Coat.

It is, of course, a play on the word “Catalog,” but there are two ideas behind the name.

The first is the idea of exploring vintage archives and enjoying old workwear as if you were flipping through the pages of an old catalog.

The second is “log” — a record.

As the garment is worn, faded and broken in, each owner adds their own record to the fabric.

The denim used for this Chore Coat was designed with exactly that kind of aging in mind.

It is a 10oz 2×1 denim, woven with naturally irregular No. 7 warp yarns and finer No. 16 weft yarns.

By using a finer weft and slightly reducing the weave density, the character of the warp yarns becomes more visible, allowing the relatively light 10oz denim to develop pronounced vertical fading with wear.

The denim is dyed with 100% synthetic indigo. Compared with denim given more dyeing cycles, it begins with a slightly brighter blue rather than a deep, dark indigo.

The chest also features a new MASTER CLOTH label, with the wording changed from “Cat” to “Catalog.”

The front and cuff buttons will also gradually transition to the new specification as the existing stock of parts is used up.

Rather than simply copying an old garment, TCB has imagined what might have existed by studying surviving details, vintage pieces and historical references.

Then the wearer takes over, adding the next chapter through years of fading and wear.

It begins as a Catalog and becomes your own log.

That idea sums up the “Cat a log” series perfectly.

In-store try-ons are offered as a service to customers who are considering purchasing from our store.

Items such as cut-and-sew garments, which are prone to stretching, cannot be tried on. Exchanges after trying on at home post-purchase are also not accepted.

Please also refrain from trying on belts, as they tend to stretch. For length confirmation, please bring a belt you are currently using.

For leather boots and sandals, try-ons are also offered on the premise of purchase. Please try them on during the final confirmation stage. When trying on, please be careful not to cause wrinkles. Please be sure to bring your own socks.
