Aaron Anderson
Born in 1970, he is one of the top Navajo artists from New Mexico.
I started making jewelry in earnest in the late 1990s. I use a unique technique called "tufa casting," in which I draw designs on soft stone called "tufa stone," carve out the design with carving tools to create a prototype, and then pour molten silver into it at high temperatures to create the finished piece.
Tuffa casting is a very labor-intensive technique, and it's a nerve-wracking process where even the slightest deviation or mistake is not allowed, especially when carving the stone. I am always amazed by his skill in doing it so quickly.
Because this technique requires extremely delicate craftsmanship and a high level of design sense, the number of artists who create with it is very limited. Among them, the works he creates are always original and artistic. He continues to fascinate many people and has been leading the industry as the top of the tuffa for many years.
Furthermore, he possesses a rare talent, capable of producing almost all techniques, not just tufa casting, with high quality. He has a very friendly and cheerful personality, always laughing loudly, and makes jewelry while listening to his favorite rock and roll music.
