This is a work shirt made from Samurai Cotton 10oz selvedge denim. The shirt features asymmetrical pockets, a vintage detail, and three-piece sleeves. Selvedge is used on the hem gusset, the front lower edge, and the sleeve lining. The stitching uses cotton thread and is mainly strong three-needle chain stitching. However, it's a meticulously crafted design with attention to detail in various parts, such as the use of thick and thin threads, the width of the two-needle stitching, and the differentiation of stitch lengths. Additionally, the three-needle stitching from the side to the sleeve is a unique specification with chain stitching showing on the outside. The buttons are made of nut material.

【Samurai Cotton 10oz Selvedge Denim Series】

This is selvedge denim made from slub yarn #10, created through the same spinning process as the Zero 17oz denim yarn used in Samurai Cotton Zero tenjiku and loopwheeled fabrics. This special and unique yarn boasts a strong twist, stiff and highly uneven texture characteristic of Zero denim yarn, and the original texture and flavor of Samurai Cotton, retaining fallen cotton and cotton waste. By carefully weaving this yarn on a power loom, the denim achieves a unique uneven appearance and texture. The selvedge is dyed in a natural brown, evoking the image of a cotton field.

What I want to convey first about this shirt is not the 10oz number or the stitching specifications.

It's that the fabric contains "Samurai Cotton," Japanese cotton that Samurai Jeans cultivated in their own fields. And the fact that this is special.

Most denim produced in Japan today uses cotton imported from overseas.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with that.

However, Samurai Jeans considered, "Can't we produce the raw material cotton itself in Japan?" and has been working on it by actually standing in the fields themselves, cultivating ancient Japanese cotton.

That is "Samurai Cotton."

The SJWS-SC02 uses 10oz selvedge denim that incorporates this Samurai Cotton.

Moreover, the yarn is slub yarn #10, made with the same spinning process as the Zero 17oz denim, which is representative of Samurai. This is then slowly woven on a traditional power loom.

Reading this, you might imagine a stiff and rigid denim shirt.

However, in reality, it's not like that.

It has a moderate thickness typical of 10oz and a distinct denim presence, but it's not rigid and breaks in more easily than expected.

It's a solid denim, yet it's easy to wear as a "shirt."

This is what I really liked after touching and wearing it.

And up close, it has a unique texture with the unevenness of slub yarn, cotton waste, and fallen cotton, unlike uniformly smooth denim.

Including the Samurai Cotton, I believe this slightly rustic texture of the fabric itself is the charm of this shirt.

Asymmetrical pockets, three-piece sleeves, three-needle chain stitching with cotton thread, and selvedge used even on the hem gusset and sleeve lining.

If you look at the craftsmanship, it's a shirt you could talk about endlessly.

But when you wear it, you don't really have to be conscious of such things.

Just wear it normally with jeans, chinos, or military pants.

You can roll up the sleeves and wear it alone, or casually throw it over a T-shirt.

It has a moderate thickness, giving it a strong presence even when worn alone, yet it's not heavy.

And as you wear and wash it repeatedly, the indigo will change, and the fabric's unevenness and the details of the stitched areas will gradually become more prominent.

Samurai Jeans started by cultivating cotton in Japan.

This shirt allows you to wear a part of that endeavor not as something special to be displayed, but as an everyday work shirt.

I think that's the most interesting thing about this shirt.
