A new color, Paw Stripe, will be released for the Cathartt Chore Coat created with heart buttons. We blended the heart stripes that existed in Vintage Carhartt with the TCB-ness of Cat's Paw to create a Chore Coat that looks classic and cool, yet cute upon closer inspection, offering a dual charm.
This fabric was created by Sanyo Senko Co., Ltd. in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, my hometown. In my boyhood, I used to go to the arcade nearby, but I had no idea that there was a company with such interesting technology so close by.
The process involves indigo dyeing using a continuous dyeing machine, one of the few in Japan capable of indigo dyeing raw fabric, followed by discharge printing. In this technique, a discharge agent is applied with a cylinder to remove the color, and then a beige dye is printed onto the discharged area. Because beige is printed onto the white discharged heart pattern, the resulting hearts have slightly blurred outlines.
Even with vintage wabash fabrics, we sometimes see wabash with blurred outlines, but as these plates are used, the edges and outlines of the discharge print become softer, eventually requiring the plates to be replaced.
For the wabash fabric specially ordered by TCB, if the heart and paw outlines were too crisp, it might look a bit flashy. However, we intentionally gave it a slightly subtle, whimsical look from the start, and we hope you'll appreciate this as a cool yet cute design point.
At first glance, it might seem cheap, but it's actually a labor-intensive specification.
After making it and even visiting the factory, I wondered if Stifel's fabric manufacturing method became obsolete due to being too labor-intensive. I am nothing but grateful to Sanyo Senko for being able to produce it using the same method even today. Although I hesitated to print on the back of the fabric when considering the cost, in the end, I couldn't resist, and there are cats instead of boots. It doesn't matter once you wear it, but you see it every time you put it on. Perhaps that's one of the charms of this fabric. *Stifel Co. was an American textile company that developed wabash fabric. On the back of Stifel's fabric, there is a logo with the company name "Stifel" written inside a boot-shaped pattern.
The details of the Chore Coat itself, like the Denim, are based on 1940-50s Vintage Carhartt, but with reference to various materials, we've created a 1920s atmosphere to match the MASTER CLOTH name and heart buttons, and the historical context.
For example, the following are details typical of the 1920s:
Square collar with a center seam. Change buttons attached with eyelets.
Adjustable first button and cuffs.
Set-in sleeves.
Low sleeve caps, also reproduced in TWO CATS BLOUSE, etc.
■Notes: Both the front buttons and cuff buttons are change button specifications. Since their durability is lower than regular buttons, we recommend removing the buttons when washing. In case of damage or loss, we have buttons in stock, but they will be provided at a charge. Thank you for your understanding.
