The end result is a curious piece of bandanna art that will look absolutely incredible tied or wrapped around a person. The art style and arrangement of this bandanna is a bit of a throwback to the 1800s but only in jest. The look of the fish and use of bubble dots to create an underwater effect was a precarious undertaking. Making new things look like they’re old is not easy. Well we tried. I think it looks amazing. Yurika Shikai excels at this… Looking at loads of lacquerware and feeling really inspired I found a piece that spoke to me as if I was speaking with a person through my phone. Which I was… I was being shown a beautiful Japanese lacquerware piece that had such subtle beauty, that my screen really didn’t do it justice. The chrysanthemum is as Japanese as big-eyed anime characters. Albeit a bit more subtle and nuanced. I couldn’t think of anything other than making a bandanna using a design to something similar to this reference. Using the deepest black and a merlotest-pink the elegance here is extremely subtle and refined. I feel like this is one of those designs destined for bigger things. While it may look simple once tied or wrapped it is such a stylish look. The color scheme is also easy to mix and match with pretty much anything. I would love to see it mixed with pinks and beiges at some point. That said, looking at the design and color scheme and over a decade of experience it sure looks French. The simplicity of this design is where it really shines. The tight arrangement of dots and lines is excellent. It has a classic late 1800’s early 1900’s design aesthetic. Let’s talk about the color. The original was a misprint and very faded. However there was a small patch of color that seemed true to the original intended color. A very gentle champagne beige. Which helped named this piece along with the tiny dots (bubbles) , which didn’t sparkle as much as they glowed. The light tones mixed with black dots and lines gives this bandanna style versatility. We were inspired by a friend Stable West to make an equestrian themed bandanna. The main idea was to create a design that was based on blue and white ceramics. Being a fan and collector of these items it was only natural to use similar details and themes. We have included a little bit of East and West here. Notice the Japanese horse shoes mixed with Western horse shoes. The darker shade here will actually be dark indigo and the light a Parisian blue. With little details of ecru to balance it out. This is our first design that we will be offering in 70 x 70 and 90 x 90 cm sizes.
